Osteen VS Koresh

Post  Dan on Sun Aug 31, 2008 8:43 am

Although not yet so famous as Oral Roberts, Joel Osteen, pastor of the
Lakewood Church in Houston Texas, is getting there slowly but surely.

Osteem claims his preaching style focuses on the goodness of God, rather than the wages of sin.

According to Osteen, his role is more a life coach than preacher.
Osteen discounts the importance of biblical learning over the
importance of living prosperously with a positive outlook toward your
fellow man.

In sum, Osteen presents himself as sort of a non-preacher. A man
with no vision or special message from God. He is a motivational
speaker with the power of prayer and flock.

Koresh on the other hand, claimed to be a prophet vested with the
authority of Jesus. Even at times claiming to be Jesus. Koresh was not
right. We understand that.

Knowing the above to be so, the focus of Osteen is prosperity and
power while the focus of Koresh was power and sex. The same destination
but by different means.

In the case of both men, religion is a convenient if not purposely made platform for furthering an agenda.

Ironically, Osteen inherited the Lakewood church from his deceased
father. Koresh had to lie, steal, and kill to get his own church.

Could the truth be that such similar paths are both wrong?
